If you are planning to run more than one HID grow light, you will need to use a heavy duty contactor. So it takes the load and strike the lamps safely and Maxiswitch Pro Contactors will do just that.

 
Plugging any HID lighting directly into a domestic timer unit will cause the timer to prematurely fail and futhermore could lead to a potential electrical hazard. This will also eventually result in your lights being fused in the on or off state. Using a light controller will avoid this problem.
